It is with great pleasure that I announce CVRS is now an official 501(c)3 non-profit!! It was quite the paperwork and sometimes confusing but thanks to Sherry from Triple L Horse Rescue and Jo Deibel from Angel Acres Rescue it has all been completed and approved :) We are excited to get started with some new fundraisers, educational affairs for the public and hands on learning here at the rescue. We would love to meet new people so if you are in the area please contact us to make arrangements to visit.
Our farrier was here on 8-14 to do some trims. Breeze's back feet are doing rather well but it seems as though she now has white line disease. We are treating her in hopes to keep ahead of this awful situation and will be sure to keep everyone posted. Charlee was having some issues a few weeks ago but with great vet and farrier care he is now doing a lot better. It seems that Charlee had a small abscess in his right rear foot and two in his right front, one of which was quite large. He was on stall rest and had his foot wrapped with plenty of iodine. As I stated he is doing much better now. I think Teeko is related to pigs at some point in his background as he is always looking for the mud and muck. Because of this he started with some thrush in his right front foot that ended up infected under the frog. His foot was thoroughly cleaned, soaked and then wrapped. He and Charlee were not happy for 5 days but they are both happy boys again. Glace will be returning again soon to trim more horses and he will of course do a check up on our residents with foot issues to make sure they are recovering as they should.
I have a lot of ideas in my mind to better help CVRS and I am hoping to get plenty of help from our supporters and hopefully bring in new volunteers. Thank you to all of you that support our rescue, we appreciate it very much.
As I always say, if you have any questions at all please do not hesitate to contact us.

Please note that I know the girls do not have the proper footwear but they have since gotten boots : )

There  has been a lot going on around CVRS and with the support of great friends like Linda J and Diane W it makes coping with things a lot easier - THANK YOU LADIES!!
Well obviously time has flown by and I am always surprised at how fast. My surgery went well and they patched me up but oh my the pain!! I would have rather had both my c-sections again.....LOL! I took some time off as I followed my Mother around when it was time to tend to the critters, for not being a horse person my Mother did a great job! It wasn't but a day or two before I just had to help but I didn't overdue it.
Charlee pony is doing better now but was not feeling so well a couple weeks ago and was off his feed. Our vet got all the results of his blood work and it seems his thyroid is giving him trouble. He is insulin resistant and that is no surprise. We are now treating with thyroid meds and hoping that helps but if he doesn't react to it as we hope, we will put him back on the Pergolide. Charlee has been having trouble with his right front knee as anyone that follows Charlee knows. Well I noticed that he was limping more and it seemed to be his foot. I constantly keep an eye on his feet and check them thoroughly when I clean them. Well it had gotten to the point where I was worried so I called our other vet and they came over to examine him. I told them I thought the knee was his age catching up to him but that his foot was bothering him since he hopped into the barn the day before. The vet numbed his foot to see if he would travel better once that took effect and he did.  she then took x-rays of the foot and I asked that the knee be done too, just to keep my piece of mind. She did two of the foot and two of the knee. Results showed that Charlee's knee is just from his age so we are giving him Cosequin and hoping for some positive results. Charlee's foot has some rotation but at this point I am not sure of the %. He is a previous laminitis case but we are just not sure when that happened. We are blessed to have a good farrier so Glace, Dr. Hoffman and I will do whatever it takes to make sure Charlee is taken care of. We can get the meds from our vet and the Cosequin online but because we are a rescue and funds are tight I am searching for the best prices possible. If anyone has an idea of the better pricing, please feel free to contact me
As far as the other critters, all is well. We are waiting on our farrier to get back from his vacation then he will be out to do some trimming. We are hoping that Breeze gets a good report so that Bryan and my Niece, Zoe can start doing some light riding with her.
Thank you to all of our supporters, without all of you we at CVRS would not be able to help the animals we do.
As always if anyone has any questions, please contact us.

Time flies so fast - I have been very busy trying to get things in order as I have to go in for surgery on Wed the 16th. I will be on very light duty for 6 weeks so I will be relying (oh my I am not sure how I will handle this...LOL) on others to do my work around here. We had also been trying very hard to figure out how we could get the balers and tractor we need to make our hay. Luckily some of our family members pulled together and they managed to get both a round and square baler. We are also fortunate enough to have our uncle allow Roger to use his tractor - YAY!!
We are now trying to get our hay made and with all the rain, it was not helping! My husband has finally been able to make some hay Saturday. We have a few round bales already done and we got them in the barn just in a nick of time late that night as it poured on Sunday. He is, as I type over cutting hay now and plans to bale it as soon as it is completely dry, of course. I will keep praying, as I hope you all will that things go well enough with the weather that we get it all done and in so the horses have plenty to get through the winter! We know the round baler works, now it will be testing the square baler as neither was new but they were in working condition. I would have to say from talking to Roger that baling does become more of an art....LOL!
We have taken the Pone and Rascal to my Mother's to eat that pasture down. We also took Boog and Solo over the hill to our neighbor who asked if we had a few horses that could eat down his pasture so he didn't have to mow. Charlee is hanging out moving all around eating as he pleases. We are still waiting for the results of his blood work. Our vet was to be faxing them to Steph's vet today so we should know something soon. I believe the dosage he was on was working quite well but we had to have new blood work to be sure. Once we get this taken care of we should be able to give Smartpak a year script for Charlee's pergolide, that will make things alot easier. Now that Boog and Solo are away, Howee and Teeko have become quite the buddies and are enjoying their friendship. Howee is quite the chubby man who really loves this new hay ;) Teeko is just one of those geldings that also enjoys his hay and feed. He gets along with everyone and usually doesn't fuss about anything. Let's see that leaves, Breeze, Ladee and Tilee, the 3 mares and they are all doing well also. Breeze is almost to the point of being sounds again (we pray and XXX fingers all the time) and that is an awesome thing to watch her romp around without pain - YAY!
Many thanks to our farrier, Glace Rider and the students that attended his farrier school.

Things are going good here at CVRS. We are quite busy trying to get things in shape around here. There are many things that need to be addressed like fencing, run-ins, and especially HAY ;)
As far as the horses are concerned all are healthy, happy and sassy!
Our farrier and vet were both here on the 18th. We had 7 horses trimmed and all our horses were given their vaccines. I must admit the day went better than I expected as some of the horses do not like the vet. We pulled blood on Charlee so we can check his levels to make sure his pergolide is working properly. Our vet had to come back out yesterday to draw more blood as Dr. Jacobson (Celtic Rein's vet) wanted a complete CBC on Charlee too just to make sure everything is ok with him. Right now Charlee is having an issue with his right front knee as there is swelling and obvious pain. He is compensating for his once broken shoulder. He is getting bute and we will soon try some
Cosequin to see if we can get him some relief and to back off the bute to make sure his stomach doesn't get upset. If our update didn't cover something you would like to know or if anyone has any questions please feel free to contact us.
Thank you!
